Eduardo A. Undurraga es Profesor Asociado en la Escuela de Gobierno UC y Director de SENTINET, Centro de Investigación de Interés Nacional enfocado en anticipar, detectar y responder a patógenos de alta consecuencia. Ingeniero civil UC y magíster en estudios sociales y políticos latinoamericanos, obtuvo su doctorado en políticas sociales en Brandeis University como becario Fulbright. En 2023, recibió el Premio Dr. Eduardo Charreau a la Cooperación Científico-Tecnológica Regional (Estímulo), otorgado por la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI).
Su investigación conecta las ciencias sociales y la salud humana, con énfasis en poblaciones marginalizadas de América Latina. Su trabajo se centra en: (i) determinantes sociales, culturales, y ambientales de la salud, (ii) dinámica y economía de enfermedades infecciosas, y (iii) evaluación de programas e intervenciones en salud pública. Lidera el grupo interdisciplinario de investigación Amenazas Emergentes para la Salud. El grupo integra datos y métodos en múltiples escalas, desde procesos microbiológicos e interacciones humanas hasta datos poblacionales y administrativos, integrando enfoques de las ciencias sociales, biomédicas y ambientales en el estudio de la salud humana.
Con un enfoque colaborativo, ha publicado más de 160 artículos científicos, incluyendo revistas emblemáticas como The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, The Lancet, y PNAS. Su investigación ha contribuido al análisis y evaluación de políticas públicas en colaboración con ministerios y organizaciones internacionales, incluyendo la Organización Mundial de la Salud, UNICEF y la CDC Foundation, y ha sido destacada en medios como CNN International, El País, The Economist y The New York Times.
Anteriormente, fue Luksic Scholar en el David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS), Harvard University; Azrieli Global Scholar del Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR); Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellow en el Health Economics and Modeling Unit, de los US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; y Senior Research Associate en el Schneider Institutes for Health Policy, Brandeis University. También ha participado en varios centros asociativos, como MICROB-R, CIGIDEN, MLIV, y la Red Iberoamericana ANDES.
